The terms “Janki Bandh – Jakni Bandh” are the same, just variations of the same location and differing only in spellings. The older generation people in the nearby area pronounce it as Jakni bandh.

Janki Bandh is located in the south of Goa on NH 66 on the Margao Canacona highway. The exact distance to the location from Margao to Navelim to Dramapur from Margao is about 3-4 km.

The bridge was built during the Portuguese reign and was very deep in those days. Now this bridge is not being used as there is another bridge constructed parallel to it.

Janki Bandh: A Haunting Tale of Tragedy and Ghostly Whispers

During those days there have been few cases of tragedies and hence quite well know place having witnessed many accidents over the years. But the most famous tragedy was the school bus accident that occurred somewhere in the 80’s.

This bus accident was one of the worst accidents that happened in those years when a busload of children went off the bridge and fell in the bandh (Culvert)

All the school children and a few other passengers on the bus died. The rescue facilities were quite bad in those days in Goa and very slow to arrive at the location. The cause of the accident was due to the driver’s fault, who lost total control and went into the culvert.

Janki Bandh, also spelt as Jakni Bandh, is reputed to be haunted by the spirits of children who were aboard a fateful bus. Many visitors to this location have reported eerie experiences, hearing the anguished cries and desperate pleas for assistance from unseen children when there is no one present nearby.

These unsettling occurrences are said to predominantly take place during the late hours of certain nights throughout the year.
